Aquasafe

Lead-Free uPVC Pressure Piping System for Agriculture

The Astral Aquasafe system provides a comprehensive range of uPVC pressure pipes and fittings. These pipes are manufactured according to the standards of IS: 4985 and Astral’s own quality guidelines, covering sizes from 20 mm to 400 mm. They are available in different pressure ratings as specified in IS: 4985 and feature a plain socket and ring socket with an elastomeric seal ring for easy installation.

Astral Aquasafe pipes and fittings can be joined using Astral UPVC solvent cement or an elastomeric seal ring, ensuring secure connections. The fittings are manufactured in compliance with IS: 7834, and fabricated fittings follow the standards of IS10124(Part-2) as well as Astral’s own specifications.

Both the pipes and fittings are grey in color, made from uPVC raw material, which makes them corrosion-free and durable. Additionally, Astral prioritizes lead-free manufacturing for Aquasafe pipes and fittings, supporting the movement towards safer and healthier plumbing systems.

FAQs

When pipes are buried underground, they may undergo slight shape deformation due to the load they bear and the quality of the installation. If pipes are installed above ground, there may be color fading over time without affecting their ability to withstand pressure. This fading occurs because of exposure to hot air in empty lines, as hot air is a poor heat conductor. The pipes can retain heat for extended periods, leading to color fading.

In the laboratory, two types of tests are conducted according to the IS (Indian Standard). The first is the acceptance test, which is performed on every lot of pipes to ensure their quality meets the required standards. The second is the type test, which is conducted every three months to assess the ongoing performance and quality of the pipes. These tests are essential for maintaining consistent quality control and ensuring the pipes meet the necessary standards.

According to the IS (Indian Standard), the effective length of the pipe is considered as the length for calculation purposes. The effective length is calculated by subtracting the socket length from the overall length of the pipe. For example, if the overall length of the pipe is 6 meters, and the socket length is 0.5 meters, then the effective length would be 5.5 meters. This effective length is used in various calculations and specifications related to the pipe.

The socket length for SELFIT pipes is calculated based on the pipe's outer diameter (OD) using the formula: Socket Length = (Pipe OD + 6) / 2 For example, if the pipe's outer diameter is 100 mm, the calculation would be as follows: Socket Length = (100 + 6) / 2 Socket Length = 53 mm Therefore, for a SELFIT pipe with a 100 mm outer diameter, the socket length would be 53 mm.

PVC-O stands for Oriented PVC Pipe. PVC-O pipes have a higher pressure-bearing capacity and greater mechanical strength compared to conventional pressure pipes, despite being thinner. However, due to the expensive manufacturing equipment and process involved, the cost of PVC-O pipes is significantly higher.
